Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at the heart of Citizen
🌍 What is Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)?
At Citizen, we’re committed to creating communities where everyone feels safe, valued and heard. We want to make sure that everyone who lives in our homes feels respected, valued and included. We want everyone to feel welcome, respected and treated fairly, no matter who they are or where they come from.
Equality means treating everyone fairly and making sure no one is left out or disadvantaged.
Diversity is about recognising and valuing the differences between us – such as age, culture, race, gender, disability, sexuality, or religion.
Inclusion means creating a community where those differences are welcomed, and everyone feels they belong.
EDI focus groups update
Citizen commissioned an independent Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) health check through the Housing Diversity Network (HDN). The purpose was to review our current approach to EDI across colleagues, customers and communities, and to identify where further improvements could be made. We held in-person and online customer focus groups on 26 March, giving customers an opportunity to:
- hear the key findings from the health check
- understand Citizen’s proposed EDI strategy and action plan
- ask questions
- share feedback and ideas to help shape the customer-facing elements of the plan
We’ll be producing a new EDI strategy shaped around four themes:
- Leadership
- Colleagues
- Customers
- Communities
A four-year action plan is also being developed to support delivery of the EDI strategy.
To find out more, including key themes, customer feedback, suggestions and follow-up actions, please read the EDI focus groups and report follow-up document on the right-hand side of this page.
🏡 Why EDI matters in Social Housing
In social housing, EDI helps us:
- Make sure homes and services are fair for everyone
- Listen to people from all walks of life
- Build stronger, safer and more connected communities
- Understand what different people need to feel at home
We know that some voices are harder to hear and we’re working to change that.
📣 Your voice matters
Whether you speak up in person, over the phone, or through a printed survey, we are here to listen.
Together, we can make Citizen a place where everyone belongs.
